Here are my overall waiver wire rankings ahead of Matchup #2. These rankings are for unowned players that are available in multiple leagues at Red Carpet Rosters. This list is not exhaustive. For more waiver wire ideas, check out the Statistics>Players page in your League. To make a waiver wire request, simply go to My Team then Waiver Wire then Request a Player. Waivers are due in all leagues by 6:00 pm EST, December 2.
Let’s get into the rankings:
- Charlotte Wells, DIR-SCRN, Aftersun – As I’m writing this, Charlotte Wells just got another win for breakthrough at New York Film Critics Circle for her film Aftersun. Charlotte Wells is this year’s Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter.) Last call on Charlotte Wells.
- Paul Mescal, ACTR, Aftersun – Paul Mescal appears slated to have a similar year as Simon Rex had with Red Rocket. He deserves FLEX consideration for your starting lineup.
- All That Breathes, DOC – Pre-draft rankings did not do All That Breathes justice as it now leads all players in fantasy points. Now that documentary centric awards are mostly finished, don’t expect it to perform every matchup like it did in Matchup #1, but as of right now, this documentary should be owned in all leagues. It could also help you with the International Documentary Association Winners being announced late in Matchup #2.
- Ludwig Göransson, SCORE-SONG, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – With the news of Rihanna’s instant contender status for Best Original Song in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ludwig Göransson becomes a worthy waiver wire add for the simple fact that he co-wrote the song with Rihanna and could get some bonus points for also scoring Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
- Frankie Corio, ACTRS, Aftersun – Frankie Corio will likely get plenty of Youth Performance nominations at the many organizations that honor such a category. Corio, like her co-star Paul Mescal, deserves FLEX consideration in regular season matchups.
- Brian Tyree Henry, ACTR, Causeway – After pulling two nominations at Gotham and Indie Spirit (to be fair, 11 such actors/actresses did), I’m going with Brian Tyree Henry as one that can separate from the pack.
- Florian Hoffmeister, CIN, Tár – You could do worse if you’re looking for someone to fill the EDIT/CIN slot. More ceremonies honor cinematographers than editors, so if you’re short a cinematographer, Florian Hoffmeister is your best bet off the waiver wire.
- Billy Eichner, ACTR-SCRN-SONG, Bros – This is purely a speculative add. Billy Eichner does have points from HMMA, but Billy Eichner will likely get serviceable points, especially when GALECA rolls around.
- Keke Palmer, ACTRS, Nope – She JUST won a New York Film Critics Circle Award, and anyone who wins here should be worth a look.
- Kogonada, DIR-EDIT-SCRN, After Yang – Kogonada is always a fringe fantasy contributor. He has limited upside, but a decent floor, especially since he has EDIT eligibility.
- Jenny Beavan, CD, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris – Jenny Beavan is well-respected in the Costume Design community, so this is more of a speculative add. She already has one win under her belt, so you could do worse.
- Aftersun, PIC – Charlotte Wells is #1 in waiver wire rankings, so it stands to reason that if Aftersun is available, snag it too.
- Anyone who wins New York Film Critics Circle. I want to publish this post before the NYFCC is done announcing, so take a look at the results, and if any of the winners are unowned, put in a waiver wire request.
