Waiver Wire Rankings – Matchup #4

After a very short, but WILD, Matchup #3, we’re already prepping for Matchup #4. Reminder that waivers are due at 6:00 pm EST and will be processed shortly thereafter. As always, there could be more valuable waivers on your specific league’s waiver wire, so check that first. And for even more waiver wire advice, consult my previous posts. I tend to not duplicate.

Let’s get to it!

  1. Jackass Forever (DOC) – KIDDING! Yes, somehow Jackass Forever got multiple points, including a shared WIN for Best Ensemble at Boston Film Critics (tying with Women Talking.) Don’t be fooled though. Jackass Forever, no matter how entertaining, isn’t going to make much noise elsewhere. (I hope I’m wrong because I love chaos.)
  2. Guillermo del Toro (DIR-SCRN-SONG) – It’s hard to overlook anyone with cross-position eligibility. Guillermo del Toro has now snagged points for directing, screenplay, and song. Most of his points are coming from his original song, co-writtern with Alexandre Desplat and Roeban Katz. However, points are points, and he could be picking up steam for at least some song points.
  3. Rihanna and Tems (SONG) – Speaking of song points, last call on Rihanna and Tems.
  4. EO (INT) – If you have an underperforming documentary and were too late to pick up RRR to fill the ANI/INT/DOC slot, may I interest you in another title with all capital letters? EO seems to have a high floor of points for nomination rich announcements. It’s picked up 4 and 5 points in the last two matchups, respectively, which isn’t too shabby.
  5. Hoyte van Hoytema (CIN) – The cinematographer from Nope is picking up steam, and having a suitable CIN is important to your team since more point potential is available for CIN’s than EDIT’s.
  6. Angela Bassett (ACTRS) – This is more of a speculative add, but she has picked up some nominations and is a dark horse for an Oscar nom in a wide open field.
  7. Nothing Compares (DOC) – I really hate putting a documentary on my waiver wire rankings, but it did snag a PGA nom, which shouldn’t be overlooked. This is a backup plan if you don’t have any better options at ANI/INT/DOC slot.
  8. Hong Chau (ACTRS) – Mostly for her work in The Whale, she was also in The Menu, which could result in some bonus points. Hong Chau may consistently get you 4 or 5 points each matchup (and in a wide open field, see Angela Bassett), which is good enough for her to be the 8th ranked actress right now.
  9. Jason Kisvarday (PD) – The production designer from Everything Everywhere All at Once will be important when more guilds announce their nominations.
